Memento Mori

Memento Mori, is a large-scale multimedia video installation. Issues concerning memory and war, specifically the media’s exploitation of the war in Sarajevo is addressed through visual representation.  Within Memento Mori I have created a new language with new symbols and metaphors, that dignifies those involved rather than victimizing them.  The installation conveys a feeling of pathos, memory, and haunting visual archives, comprised of those who may have perished during the civil war in Sarajevo.  Memento Mori points out the impact of the media in shaping our perception of armed conflict. Memento Mori questions the barriers that keep us divided and enclosed, whether those barriers are described or physical, ethnic, cultural, religious or economic.  “We can no longer exist by trying to annihilate the ‘other.”
